Old Pocket Map of London by Cruchley 1849

Old Pocket Map of London by Cruchley 1849

Regular price £39.95

An extremely rare piece from the cartographer Cruchley depicting a plan of the city of London with the infamous Thames River running through the centre. The first edition of this map was published in 1827 and was updated annually until this particular issue in 1849. The original drawing was a great deal smaller than this issue and covered a much more restricted area. As well as covering central London, this edition extends the coverage of the city and its surroundings, now encasing the East India Docks and the Isle of Dogs and is likely to have been the last edition of this particular map published by Cruchley. As is seen in previous editions, this bird’s-eye view is surrounded by a highly detailed street index including principle buildings, public transport routes, streets and parks.
