A stunning yet unusual plan of the city of London and its surroundings dating from 1764. It was originally published in Gentleman’s Magazine and featured in four separate issues. The map encapsulates the Great British capital and its environs in intricate detail noting principle buildings, villages, churches, mills, Gentlemen’s Seats, and much more. The plan further includes information regarding the local town markets and the days upon which these markets operated, allowing the viewer a rare and intimate insight into the London life-style at the time. The Gentlemen’s Magazine was founded in 1731 by Edward Cave and ran uninterrupted for nearly 200 years before its last edition was published in 1922.
