Old Maps of London 1746 by Rocque
More formally titled, “A Plan of the Cities of London and Westminster, and borough of Southwark,” this edition from our range of Old London maps depicts Georgian London. Having taken nearly ten years to survey, engrave and publish, it is unsurprising that the plan has been described by some historians as the most detailed and accurate map of the 1700s ever produced – the exquisite detail is profound for even the untrained eye. The map was depicted “a massive achievement” by the Annals of London (2000) and is undoubtedly a fantastic example of cartography, used as a principle reference by many historians of the area. This outstanding plan of London and the world-famous Thames River reveals astonishingly precise detail of the Great British capital.
